About the Seminar:
The idea for the Seminar was initiated and realized by Prof. Stefka Chankova, PhD, who in 2001 was elected Head of Section "Biology", Union of Scientists in Bulgaria (USB).
The short history of the "Seminar of Ecology" is as follows:
• 2007 The Sections "Biology" and "Theoretical and evolutionary biology" at the USB, together with Central Laboratory of General Ecology - Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (CLGE-BAS), organized a seminar on "Evolution and Ecology - 3";
• 2008 The Section "Biology", CLGE - BAS and the “Ecology Society” organized "Seminar of Ecology";
• 2009 The Section “Biology”, CLGE - BAS and the “Environmental Engineering and Environmental Protection Society” organized an "Seminar of Ecology - 2009" dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria;
• Since 2010, the "Seminar of Ecology" has been held jointly by the Section “Biology” - USB and IBER-BAS as inheritor of CLGE-BAS;
• A jubilee "Seminar of Ecology" dedicated to the 70th Anniversary of the USB was held in 2014.
• Since 2014, the "Seminar of Ecology" has been held as a scientific forum with international participation - Germany, the Republic of Kosovo, the Republic of Macedonia, the Republic of Serbia, Ukraine, Russia, Austria and France.
In 2013 for the first time prizes and honorary diplomas were awarded for the best youth presentations and posters. This tradition is preserved and will continue in future.
Over the years the "Seminar of Ecology", with its up-to-date environmental themes, has established itself as an attractive scientific forum and has gained great popularity. This fact is confirmed by the increasing number of participants each year. An indication of the usefulness of the event is the numerous positive feedbacks from all attenders. Well-known scholars and young scientists from various institutes and universities throughout the country and abroad participate in the Seminar. This scientific forum enables all participants to exchange experience and knowledge in the relevant area of ecology.
All manuscripts are reviewed and edited. Some of the presented plenary reports are published in NAUKA (SCIENCE) Magazine, USB edition (Issue 4 and 5/2017, Year XXVII: http://www.bvu-bg.eu/nmvb/index.php?Clip=nauka).
• The books from 2007 and 2009 are printed in the publishing house of the USB.
• In 2008, the reports were published in a book by “Ecological Engineering and Environmental Protection” magazine.
• The book, published in 2014, was dedicated to the 70-th Anniversary of the USB.
• In 2017 the Seminar had its own anniversary - it was held for the 10-th consecutive year.
The book contains both the full texts of the submitted reports and the short communications.
The scientific forum is realized with the support of IBER-BAS, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and USB.
The realization of the Seminar over the years have been accomplished thanks to the partial financial support of USB, BULGAP Ltd.; LKB - Bulgaria Ltd., Biotechab Ltd. and Pensoft Publishers.
Information about the Seminar is announced through advertisements and popular articles on the website of the Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research (http://www.iber.bas.bg/?q=bg), as well as in the journal Science, published by USB and the Bulletin of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
